Most of the old residences were constructed with shared walls between adjacent homes. This architectural feature serves several purposes.
1. Reduces the total exposed surface area. This helps prevent heat gain. It results in better insulation, as the shared walls act as a buffer against extreme outdoor temperatures.
2. It maximizes the use of available land space in densely populated areas.
3. Living in close proximity to neighbors can foster a sense of community and social interaction.
