Narrow passages.

The old residences and monuments had very narrow passages and corridors. It was noticed that these passages were quite cold and windy.

Narrow passages or corridors can create a channeling effect or the Venturi effect, which is a phenomenon observed in fluid dynamics. This effect occurs when air flows through a constricted space, like a narrow corridor and the velocity of the fluid increases while its pressure decreases.

When air flows through a narrow passage, the temperature might also decreases. Because when air is compressed and then released it becomes cooler. When air flows through a narrow passage it gets compressed.
